Before we get started in earnest, though, I want you to do something for me – and it’s the hardest thing I’m EVER going to ask you to do.
I want you to think about WHY you want to lose weight. Really think long and hard about this one. What makes you want to lose weight? What’s your main motivator?
Is it because you don’t like the reflection you see when you look in the mirror?
Is it because people give you a hard time for being overweight?
Do you have a closet full of clothes that no longer fit?
Are you in danger of developing or have you already developed diabetes?
Has your doctor told you you’d better lose X lbs PDQ or you’ll drop dead from a heart attack?
Is there some other reason?
Think of the REAL reason – not some superfluous one like: “I’m going to a wedding and I want to look good in the pictures.”
What’s your LONG-TERM motivation for losing the weight and keeping it off? This is not an easy question to answer, but you MUST do it before you begin your weight-loss program.
Because this is going to be your MOTIVATION to lose the weight. This the BENEFIT that’s going to make all the hardship worthwhile – your GOAL if you like.
Oh yes: It must be something YOU want. Losing weight is something you must want to do for yourself.
When you’ve decided on the REAL reason, write it down and display it prominently – the door of your refrigerator is a good place. Look at it every day. This will help you to stay focussed.
How many diets have failed you? Note that I ask how many have failed YOU, not how many have you failed AT.
There’s a good reason why I put the question that way, and I’m going to let you into a secret: Most diets set you up to fail. It’s true. By and large the diet industry WANTS you to fail.

They get you to buy their line of formulated foods and their branded supplements. They pressure you to join their “support group” for a subscription, of course where they try and sell you MORE stuff!
It all comes down to profit. You lose more money than weight.
Here’s what the diet industry DOESN’T want you to know: You’re not going to lose weight by just following a diet; or if you do, you won’t lose very much.
To lose weight effectively, you need to do MORE than just diet. You need to exercise, and to live a more healthy lifestyle.
A diet may fail you, but a comprehensive healthy-eating and healthy-living program won’t.
Because you can tailor it to suit YOUR requirements, rather than slavishly following some one-size-fits-all diet.
