In this video, Dr. Berg talks about uric acid kidney stones and the ketogenic diet. In the ketogenic diet the environment of the body slightly become more acidic and that is usually where the uric crystals come out as solution and form. Ketogenic Diet can make you lose sodium and anytime the sodium goes lower, the uric acid can spike. He also talks about how the low sodium diets promote uric acid.

Several reasons why the uric acid could increase:
1. High Protein Diet
2. Fructose
3. Diabetes – High Sugar or High Carbohydrate Diet and this is the reason why a lot of diabetics has a high uric acid.
4. Acid

One of the things you want to do to prevent kidney stones, 1 teaspoon of Sea Salt each day. (But this is only recommended for people who do the Ketogenic Diet)

Today we are gonna talk about uric acid kidney stones and the ketogenic diet. Now someone is going to get a stone in a ketogenic diet chances are they are gonna have more of a uric acid stones versus an oxalate stones. Let's just first talk about uric acid, there are several reasons why your uric acid can increase whether it is gonna turn into a stone or a gout. Number 1 its the high protein diet, too much protein, well you don't have to worry about that with the ketogenic diet because we are gonna do moderate amounts of protein. Number 2 fructose can greatly increase the uric acid and you don't have to worry about that on our program so that could be eliminated. Or a high sugar situation, high carbohydrate diets have a tendency to increase uric acid. Again, we don't have to worry about that because we are doing low sugar. And this is why a lot of diabetics have higher levels of uric acid because of this connection. But with the ketogenic diet, it is a little but different. One the environment of the body becomes slightly more acidic and that is usually where the uric acid crystals could come out as a solution and form. But there is one little piece of the puzzle that I want to bring up and its very very important. When you do ketosis, you loss sodium or you have lower amounts of sodium and anytime that the sodium goes lower, your uric acid can spike. This is why people on diuretics for example thiazides one of the side effects is gouts because low sodium diets promote uric acid. So if you wanna prevent kidney stones, one of the things you want to do is make sure each day 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Now this is for people on a ketogenic diet. If you are doing a high carbohydrate diet, I don't recommend even that much you need lower amounts but I am talking about if you are doing healthy ketogenic program. Make sure you consume 1 teaspoon of sea salt each day because not only will help keep this in check but it does a lot of other things as well. It can prevent muscle fatigue, keto flu and a lot of other symptoms. Alright, thanks for watching!
